Questions & Answers
  • What makes you different from other local wedding officiants? Why should someone hire you? I offer a do-it-yourself approach to creating the ceremony, so that your wedding will be meaningful and memorable to you. I serve families with no religious affiliation, instead focusing on your values and your relationship. Your wedding will not be part of a religious worship service..

  • What are your standard payment terms? I ask for a 50% deposit to hold the date, then the balance due after the ceremony. .

  • What is your customer satisfication cancellation policy? If something were to go wrong through negligence on my part, I would adjust the balance due accordingly..

  • What is your event cancellation policy? I refund deposits at my own discretion depending on how much time I've put into the ceremony planning and how much business I've lost while holding the date. Please see my contract for more detail..

  • How far are you willing to travel? Is there a travel fee? I will travel anywhere on Kauai by car without charging an extra fee. If there is a short hike, I do not charge extra either. However for adventurous all day hikes, boat trips, etc., we can work something out..

  • How many wedding do you officiate a year? I officiate about 100 weddings per year..

  • What kind of pre-wedding counseling is required, if any? I do not require pre-marital counseling, but I do ask that the couple choose the wording of their ceremony so that it will reflect their genuine feelings and intentions. I offer literature to help define the values and aspects of your marriage that they will hold important..

  • How long after the ceremony do you file for the official marriage license? I file the marriage certificate with Kauai County on the very next business day after the wedding takes place. .

  • What documents do I need to bring to our first meeting? If you are planning a destination wedding, most of our initial contact will be via e-mail or over the phone. Upon your arrival on Kauai, we can get together to touch base regarding the details of the wedding and the legal paperwork involved in obtaining your marriage license, changing names, etc..

  • Will you marry couples of different faiths or previous divorce? Yes, my ceremonies are non-religous, so they are the perfect choice for couples and families of diverse faiths and for legal marriages not endorsed by traditional religous faiths..

  • How long does the ceremony usually last? Since most of my Kauai Weddings are outdoors and do not contain lengthy readings, prayers, hymns, the actual ceremony (not including any procession, recession, etc) is about 5-7 minutes. .

  • Do you normally attend the reception? No. The "reception" for most of the weddings here on Kauai is an intimate romantic dinner out. I wouldn't dream of tagging along for that! .

  • Do you have a back up officiant on call, in case of an emergency? Yes, I do have other officiants I can call on in an emergency..

  • Will you allow us to write our own vows? Yes, you are welcome to choose from traditional or contemporary vows, or to write your own. .

  • Can we read or hear your ceremony before our wedding day? Yes, I offer sample ceremonies for you to choose from or to use as inspiration for customizing a ceremony to reflect your personal values, feelings and intentions..

  • In which states and communities are you licensed to officiate ceremonies? Hawaii and Washington.
